Work and play in Northland

PickNZ Northland mapRich in culture and history and blessed with a pristine natural environment, New Zealand's first settlements were in Northland. Horticulture has therefore long been an important part of the local economy.

The main crops in this region are kiwifruit, citrus and avocado, with work usually available almost all year round in picking, thinning, pruning and packing.

Tourist attractions in Northland

NorthlandVisit important historical sites and learn about the arrival of the first Maori canoes, and the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi - the founding document of the nation signed between European colonisers and the indigenous Maori people.

There is the seaside city of Whangarei, north of which there are no traffic lights or high-rise buildings. The towns of Russell, Paihia and Waitangi surround the gorgeous Bay of Islands - gateways to deep sea fishing and boating.

Native forests abound for wonderful walking, white sand beaches prevail and relaxed northern towns lead the way to the stretching dunes of Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga. This is the northernmost tip of New Zealand where you can witness the extraordinary sight of two seas meeting: the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea.
